An iconic Panama City Beach souvenir shop was destroyed after a massive fire swept through the building early Friday morning.
Fire Destroys a Thomas Drive Landmark
The blaze completely destroyed Jaws Souvenirs, a longtime retail destination located at 7100 Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach.
Firefighters responded during the early morning hours and found the building heavily engulfed in flames. Crews worked from multiple sides of the structure as thick smoke and fire spread through the popular beach shop.
The store was known for its signature shark jaw entrance and its wide selection of beach gear, swimwear, custom T-shirts, and souvenirs.
Multiple Agencies Respond to the Blaze
The response brought together firefighters from several agencies across Bay County and neighboring communities.
Panama City Fire Department joined Bay County Emergency Services, Naval Support Activity–Panama City Fire, Walton County Fire Rescue, South Walton Fire District, and Jackson County Fire Rescue. Crews used elevated water streams to attack the fire from above and bring the blaze under control.
Officials later thanked the responding firefighters for their coordinated efforts during the large-scale emergency.
Cause Remains Under Investigation
Authorities have not determined what caused the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
Officials also have not announced whether the building will be cleared for rebuilding. The loss of Jaws Souvenirs marks the disappearance of one of Panama City Beach’s recognizable roadside landmarks, leaving many locals and longtime visitors remembering the popular beach shop.
