ZooWorld Panama City Beach has two new residents, giving visitors another chance to learn about one of America’s most recognizable birds.
Two Bald Eagles Join ZooWorld
ZooWorld revealed its newest residents during its Back to School Bash on Saturday. The Panama City Beach attraction welcomed two bald eagles that cannot return to the wild.
The eagles are considered non-releasable because of medical conditions or injuries. Those challenges prevent them from surviving independently in their natural habitat.
Their new home at ZooWorld gives visitors a chance to see the birds while learning more about bald eagles and wildlife care.
The Eagles Have an Important Conservation Role
ZooWorld says the two eagles will serve as ambassadors for their species. Their presence can help guests understand the challenges wild animals face.
The bald eagle population has made a major recovery over the past several decades. The species was once listed as endangered across the lower 48 states.
Habitat loss, illegal shooting, and contamination from DDT contributed to the decline. Bald eagles were removed from the federal threatened and endangered species list in 2007.
They remain protected under federal wildlife laws, including the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Visitors Can Meet ZooWorld’s New Residents
The new eagles add another educational experience to ZooWorld’s lineup of animal encounters. The park offers opportunities to see animals up close while learning about wildlife and conservation.
ZooWorld follows an at-will approach for its animal experiences. Animal ambassadors can choose whether they want to interact with guests.
The Panama City Beach zoo is located at 9008 Front Beach Road and operates year-round. Visitors can also find animal encounters featuring species such as capybaras, lemurs, kangaroos, sloths, and alligators.
The two bald eagles now give guests another reason to stop by while visiting Panama City Beach and the surrounding 30A area.
