Visitors have a few more weeks to enjoy Liza Jackson Park before construction begins on a major renovation project.
Construction Begins Sept. 14
The City of Fort Walton Beach moved the renovation start date from August 3 to September 14.
When construction starts, crews will close the park’s west entrance and the entire west side. They will use the area to stage equipment, deliver materials, and remove construction debris.
The city has not announced when the project will finish. Visitors should expect temporary closures and limited access during construction.
Park Upgrades Aim to Improve Visitor Experience
The renovation will add several new features to the waterfront park. Crews will build a new restroom, create additional parking for vehicles and boat trailers, and redesign the boat launch traffic area.
The project also includes new sidewalks and stormwater improvements. These upgrades will improve accessibility and help manage drainage throughout the park.
City leaders expect the improvements to benefit boaters, anglers, families, and other visitors who enjoy the park throughout the year.
$3.1 Million Investment in a Popular Waterfront Park
The renovation project carries a $3.1 million price tag. Funding comes from the Fort Walton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the Infrastructure Surtax Fund, and the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Tax Fund.
Liza Jackson Park remains one of Fort Walton Beach’s most popular outdoor destinations. The park offers public boat access, fishing, picnic areas, playgrounds, and waterfront views along Santa Rosa Sound.
Construction will temporarily limit access to parts of the park. Once work finishes, visitors can expect improved amenities and a more convenient experience on the waterfront.
