A giant peanut on wheels made several stops around Destin this week as the Planters NUTmobile continued its year-long tour across the country.
26-Foot Peanut Rolls Into Destin
The 26-foot-long Planters NUTmobile arrived in the Destin area in early August. The custom vehicle made stops at Silver Sands Premium Outlets, Destin Library, and Destin High School.
At the Destin Library, children and families stopped by to see the unusual vehicle before the school year began. The NUTmobile later visited Destin High School, where staff met the traveling team and Mr. Peanut.
All-Female Team Hits the Road
Three Peanutters are traveling with the NUTmobile: Courtney Donohue, Karissa Schmit, and Christina Domingue.
The team began its year-long journey on June 1 in Austin, Minnesota. By the time they reached Destin, they had already visited 17 states. The Peanutters hope to visit 40 states before the tour ends.
The current crew also marks the first all-female NUTmobile team in the program’s 13-year history.
Peanuts, Photos and a Year on the Road
The Peanutters plan their route and choose stops that connect with local communities. During events, visitors can tour the NUTmobile, take photos with Mr. Peanut, and receive Planters peanuts and stickers.
The team usually travels with several peanut varieties, including salted, honey roasted, and cashews. Cashews are reportedly among the most popular choices.
The NUTmobile also serves as the team’s everyday vehicle. Its size requires careful planning around parking areas, bridges, tunnels, and hotel access.
After leaving Destin, the NUTmobile’s next stop is Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as its year-long journey continues across the United States.
